Student Orientation


The incoming PhD Student Welcome comprises a number of activities and resources critical to ensuring PhD students have the best possible start to their academic journey. In Summer 2023, you will hear from the PhD Hub team with more information about the orientation,  have an opportunity to ask questions, and will also be invited to all the events taking place as part of NYU Welcome, hosted by the Center for Student Life.

Tandon’s PhD Hub held its inaugural orientation for PhD students on Thursday, August 25th in the Makerspace conference room. Dean Jelena Kovacevic, PhD Hub director Vikram Kapila, and PhD Hub manager Jamie Lloyd shared important policies, resources and strategies for success with 70+ incoming PhD students. The orientation was followed by a spirited and earnest panel discussion with current PhD students Brigid Blakeslee, Sarmad Mehrdad and Oliver Lei.

Then it was time for some merriment! On Friday, August 26, the PhD Hub hosted a Happy Hour welcome for new and current PhD students, staff and faculty at Circa Brewing Company in Brooklyn. Turnout was excellent and many students reported feeling extremely welcomed and excited about the semester to come. Onward and upward!
